From its venue in Schwankhalle, steptext dance project e.V. produces and presents contemporary dance within a global network. Since the founding in 1996, the institution’s director Helge Letonja has created more than 40 ensemble choreographies and has established steptext as a desired presenter and co-producer: steptext develops and realizes dance pieces, festivals and transdisciplinary projects with partners from Germany, Europe, Africa and South America.

steptext's productions and interactions anchor dance in international collaboration as a medium and motor for aesthetic and cultural dialogues. In his physical art, Letonja investigates the movements of various social bodies and provides space for societal reflections on diversity. 
For more than 15 years, steptext’s label young artists has provided young dance enthusiasts, and, thanks to the cooperation with tanzbar_bremen, mixed-ability dancers, with training structures and space to develop on stage.

steptext's interactions promote exchange amongst and the artistic further development of the dance makers involved.  It provides the audience with access to its formal language and subjects.
