Kulturzentrum Haus am Westbahnhof

Landau

The Haus am Westbahnhof was founded in 1987. It is situated in a small university-town near the German-French border. The region’s rural character has mainly been defined by viticulture and its varied history.

The concept behind the cultural center comes from the ecological and pacifist movements of the 1980s. A group of young adults wanted to create a place for independent and new ideas. The main desire was to give people the possibility not only to consume but to create life themselves. The participation of all people in social and cultural life is an important aim till today.

The program actually contains manifold cultural and educational activities: concerts, theatre-performances, refugee aid, exhibitions, courses, art projects, excursions, music-school and, free of charge: an intercultural garden, an intercultural music-workshop, open stage-evenings, lunch-concerts e.g. Most of these are realized with the help of volunteers and in cooperation with other groups and institutions.
