FELLOWS

Violetta Tsitsiliani

2015/16 Athens

Violetta Tsitsiliani’s passion for culture led her to conduct her MA in Cultural Management after graduating from the Department of Translation, Interpretation and Foreign Languages of the Ionian University and having worked as a translator for 5 years. Her first interference with culture was on Jazz, to wit an Anglo-Hellenic Glossary of Jazz Musical Terms, and the second was a sociological approach to the profession of the young Greek fashion designers. Both gave her a perspective of the creative industries in Greece, and the opportunity of networking with artists. In the meantime, she has worked in the production of short films, in the construction of handmade clothes and the organization of events such as painting exhibitions and conferences.

Project Title

The Language Project

The Language Project is an innovative cultural initiative, a group of people, a living entity with one goal; to create a networking spot and open platform of expression for those who love languages.

An [inter]-[meta]-[multi]linguistic experience based on synergies, inspired by innovation and aiming at social impact. We aim at making words meaningful and the person behind them visible; at getting translators and linguists out of their cocoons and bringing them into the spotlight, in order for them to share their passion; at using language as a co-creative tool to interact and learn; at encouraging young people to communicate in any language, regardless of whether they make mistakes.

How? By creating a network of language aficionados and by producing versatile translation-based events that promote multilingualism in Athens, Corfu, Thessaloniki and in many more cities to come, with the support of European and Greek institutions. Workshops, an open communication platform for language lovers, participatory videos about multilingualism, translation slams, educational methods, events and info sessions concerning linguistic professions. We do things we Love. We Love Languages. We Love communicating, in any way we can. We speak a Lot, in any Language we can. At Least we try. We transLate reaLity through our own perspectives. We write more. We traveL even more.

Can foreign sounds, peculiar words and different cultures change the way we see the world?
