Project Title

ΜΕSΑ Museum of People’s Free Thinking

M.E.Σ.Α., Μουσείο Ελεύθερης Σκέψης Ανθρώπων (Museum of People’s Free thinking), is a collaborative and interdisciplinary museum outreach program. ΜΕΣΑ is aiming at promoting social inclusion of socially vulnerable communities through artistic creativity and a collective effort of idividuals both “inside” and “outside”, including contemporary artists, or bigger institutions, like a museum of contemporary art.

Its mission is to initiate the students to the museum experience, challenging them to construct it on their own, through a creative process of collaborative design and planning. The museum objects are artworks produced by the students themselves during workshops lead by important young contemporary artists.

It was developed in 2015 with the support of EMST- National Museum of Contemporary Art, in the School of Second Chance in Trikala, while this year it is also realized at the Alternative School of KETHEA Exodos in Larissa, the 3rd School of Second Chance of Thessaloniki in the Prison of Diavata, the School of Second Chance in the Prison of Korydallos “Georgios Zouganelis” and the Primary School of the Juvenile Detention Center in Avlonas (EKKNA). «MΕΣΑ» in Greek means “inside” and although it can be related to being inside prison or inside an addiction, we prefer to think that it means inside the society, inside life

Host Institution

Alarm Theater

Bielefeld’s AlarmTheater marries dance, music, song and performance in its productions and projects. Reality is examined. Where do we come from? What kind of world do we live in? What do we dream of? We stand for authentic theater with ‘experts in the everyday’ (people of different ages and origins) and aim to provoke thought. We develop our productions around contemporary themes such as flight, racism, dementia and unemployment. Since 2013 there has been a clear focus on the work with unaccompanied refugee minors.
