The Grand Voice – The Happiness Campaign

In "Grand Voice  The Happiness Campaign" seniors along with a team of younger people create an awareness campaign for "happiness". They discuss and develop the concept of happiness and learn how to communicate it in the digital world. While third age people get familiar with computers and social media, they increase their independence and self-reliance by understanding the modern ways of communication and developing intergenerational relationships.

The seniors learn all steps for Facebook and Instagram use while participating actively in the campaign’s strategy development. They practice the methodology for delivering a message through social media by holding a different role during the campaign’s implementation.
Participants are 30 third age women from different neighborhoods of Athens and a smaller team of younger people, who share views on the concept of happiness with the senior ladies.

This project strengthens the voice of seniors in society by showcasing their ability to learn new things, to be active participants in the society and attracts advocates who support their issues. It also raises awareness of active and healthy aging and intergenerational solidarity. Through the campaign, the public has the chance to learn what makes a senior lady – could be their mother or grandmother - happy.

Grand Voice

Grand Voice introduces the first mobile unit for intergenerational activities in Greece, that organizes and implements cultural and social activities and events.

The initiative develops a series of best practices for intergenerational relationships in Greece, encouraging policymakers to implement the European strategy for active and healthy aging through employment, socializing, independent living and intergenerational solidarity.

Our team and partners are motivated by the values of social justice and equality, solidarity, understanding, respect of differences, sincerity, freedom of expression and trust.

Grand Voice cooperates with municipalities, nursing homes, schools, small or big businesses and with individuals. They all recognize the benefits of intergenerational exchange on experience and knowledge and wish to contribute to further skills development and improvement of the everyday lives of the different aging populations.

Grand Voice collaborates with different experts depending on the individual activities and needs of the projects.

Love and Aging − Our Grand Questions@Landau

Have you ever imagined how love is at 70? Is there any sex? Are there tips for keeping the passion alive? There are some questions that can only be answered by elderly people. Our Grand Questions.

“Love and Aging, Our Grand Questions@Landau” was a 1-week inter-generational online project, conducted through Facebook. For 5 days, Facebook users posted their Grand Questions about love on the event’s page. They all received a personal reply from seniors in Landau: though postcards and/ or voice recordings.

This initiative tackled the communications gap that exists between generations in the internet era. Facebook has changed the way young people communicate, while the number of seniors globally increases. This project is a step towards an online community development for the benefit of inter-generational communication. Giving a voice to our grands is a way to understand them, and to understand ourselves!

Host Institution

Kulturzentrum Haus am Westbahnhof

The Haus am Westbahnhof was founded in 1987. It is situated in a small university-town near the German-French border. The region’s rural character has mainly been defined by viticulture and its varied history.

The concept behind the cultural center comes from the ecological and pacifist movements of the 1980s. A group of young adults wanted to create a place for independent and new ideas. The main desire was to give people the possibility not only to consume but to create life themselves. The participation of all people in social and cultural life is an important aim till today.
