NACUSSO

NACUSSO (Natural and Cultural Soundscape and Storytelling Organization) is a multiple nuclei organization that innovates in the field of acoustic ecology, oral history and storytelling. NACUSSO harnesses the power of soundscapes in order to create memorable stories that trigger personal reverberations and capture the essence of the places they were created in. Our Sound Stories take many different forms: from sensory augmented walks to educational programs, sound-maps, mobile applications, museum-based interventions and artistic installations. Our projects target young audiences or people with learning difficulties. We believe, that Sound Stories are a great tool to engage those audiences and encourage them to rediscover their local environment. Our vision is to promote social and cultural change through our learning, cultural and research-based initiatives, and to share with the public a different standpoint to listen and interpret the world around them.
Since its establishment, NACUSSO has collaborated with several cultural and research institutions and organizations in Greece, Germany and the UK and has worked in tandem with artists, researchers and sound/learning professionals. Our goal is to keep experimenting, learning and expanding; spreading our Sound Stories as far as sound can travel.

The Sound of Kythera

The Sound of Kythera (SoKy) is a multilevel cultural and learning project that takes advantage of the new media technologies in order to explore the field of cultural heritage in novel ways. The aim of the program is to present the cultural heritage and distinct identity of Kythera in a fresh and creative way: through the most characteristic sounds and stories of the island. These sounds are processed and pinned on a sound-map application, namely a digital map of Kythera, where every location is represented by its characteristic sounds.

Host Institution

landkunstleben

landkunstleben e.V. is dedicated to participatory and site-specific projects and collaborations. Based in the Steinhöfel community, approximately 40 km east of Berlin, we contribute to rural community life by establishing new circles of exchange between the rural and urban, and by intertwining the local with the international. This ranges from producers and gardeners to international artists, cultural workers and volunteers. We are promoting the concept of a new rural culture. This includes an ecological garden and a program of participative art projects, workshops and exhibitions.
