Project Title

Off The Grid

At a time when the contemporary Greek music scene is ever growing and enriched in genres and styles, Off The Grid comes to support and strengthen our emerging music talent. Off The Grid is a two-day forum that brings together musicians and professionals of the music sector who are convinced that networking and open dialogue can revitalize the local music scene. Through talks, panel discussions and participatory workshops, we explore the Greek music of today and we celebrate its diversity with live music showcases of new acts coming from all over the country.

Our goals are to provide new bands with the knowledge and the tools they need in order to reach their audience. Off The Grid brings musicians and their professional counterpart together and provides fertile ground to develop a (common) vision for the future.

Our goal is to increase the visibility of our local music scene by contributing to the formation of permanent support structures for the music sector in Greece.

Project Title

2792 km Athens – Bremen: New music and Creativity from Greece

With the event “2792 km Athens – Bremen: New Music and Creativity from Greece” Angeliki Georgokosta brought con- temporary Greek music, art and cultural projects to her host institution, the Kulturzentrum Lagerhaus.

In the midst of a media world full of news about Greece being mentioned almost exclusively in the context of finances or the „refugee-crisis“ this evening showed the very refreshing creative side of Greece amidst those difficulties. All three START fellows residing in Bremen presented their project ideas, explained the cultural context and opened up a dialogue with the local audience about their ideas. Two Greek music-pro- jects were invited to present their art: Master Heatwave came as a three-piece band playing various instruments including didgeridoo, trumpet, drums, bass and more creating sound- sculptures between blues and triphop involving noise and a jazzy note. LOGOUT presented his audiovisual performance, combining song structures with experimentations on looping, sampling and visual art techniques. The evening continued with a DJ set of more contemporary Greek music-productions accompanied by the screening of a photo-exhibition of Athens by Greek artist „Think a Geek“.
